NYC RESISTOR - 2 May 09
NYC RESISTOR : hackerspace in New York!
Bre was hard at work when I arrived. Right in the middle of a laser cutting class. For a very reasonable price people get to design and cut up their own projects with expert tuition.
It's a very cool 35W Epilog laser and most people were making their vectors in Inkscape. The gear macro being particularly fun.
There were projects all over the walls, and hanging from the roof.
There were some great projects created right there during the session.
Here is the class hard at work designing.
The makerbot was amazing to see in action. There are more components being cut out, so get your orders in now!
Zach, Adam and co were kind enough to let me tag along with making a huge batch of ferro fluid. The 10x size batch had some issues, despite being only a tiny fraction of the total amount the ammonia was stubornly refusing to evaporate fast enough for us to continue further.
Despite my failure as a mad scientists assistant - it was very inspiring to visit a maker space which has been permanently installed for over a year now. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me. I'm looking forward to getting some space here in NZ even more!

p.s. Thanks to Phil for reminding me to visit!
Cheers
